You may already know, but this is my "official" announcement: I'm not pregnant anymore!!!!
KAITLYN RAE was born last Thursday, Sept. 18th after just 3 hours of labor (YEAH!!!) She weighed 7 lbs 2 oz. Both mom and baby are finally home and doing well.
The bad news: Kaitlyn suffered from MAS (meconium aspiration syndrome). Basically she pooped in the womb and swallowed some. This put her straight into the Special Care Unit, where she was put on oxygen, Dex-10 IV, heart and lung monitors, and antibiotics. She wasn't allowed to eat for the first 2 days.
I went home Saturday without a baby. :( How sad is that? My parents were so awesome to let us stay at their house, which is a lot closer than ours to the hospital (I went back every 4 or 5 hours to try breast feeding her), and were great at watching our 5 other kids. Finally after a priesthood blessing, a lot of work weaning Kaitlyn off oxygen and getting her to eat, a ton of discharge instructions, 2 long, boring, and depressing videos, and a car seat test (she had to be able to sit in it for an hour and keep her oxygen levels above 90) which she failed the last 5 minutes of. . . . .we were able to take her home yesterday.
She's doing great so far. But we have to keep her away from people so she doesn't get a respiratory infection and wind up back in the hospital.
