by President Henry B. Eyring
Since I am a mother, I viewed President Eyring's words through the eyes of a mother. His talk is all about preparing those who hold the Aaronic Priesthood for the Melchizedek Priesthood.
"Just as the time we have been given to live in mortality is to prepare to meet God, the time we are given to serve in the Aaronic Priesthood is an opportunity to prepare us to learn how to give crucial help to others."
This talk is full of amazing examples of how fathers, leaders and home-teaching companions and how they helped prepare Aaronic Priesthood holders for greater leadership and duties that come with officiating in the Melchizedek Priesthood.
My thoughts, of course, were more along the lines of "As a mother, what am I doing to help prepare my sons?"
Some things I am striving to do are:
1. Family Scripture Study - President Eyring said,
"In priesthood preparation, "Show me" counts more than "tell me".
"That is why the scriptures are so important to prepare us in the priesthood. They are filled with examples."
2. Supporting them in their priesthood duties- Helping them bake cookies to take to a family they home teach. Keeping their white shirts clean and pressed. Making sure we have bread when it's their turn to bring a loaf for the sacrament. Running them to the church house early so they can help prepare for the Sacrament. ETC
3. Teach them the principles found in the Purposes of the Aaronic Priesthood -
BECOME converted to the gospel of Jesus Christ and live its teachings.
SERVE faithfully in priesthood callings and fulfill the responsibilities of priesthood offices.
GIVE meaningful service.
PREPARE and live worthy to receive the Melchizedek Priesthood and temple ordinances.
PREPARE to serve an honorable full-time mission.
OBTAIN as much education as possible.
PREPARE to become a worthy husband and father.
GIVE proper respect to women, girls, and children.
