I almost forgot

We've had the strangest winter here in Utah. Sunny days with temperatures in the 50's and very little precipitation. I almost forgot what snow was; thank goodness Mother Nature decided to remind me.

The snow started Friday night and it never stopped. It snowed and it snowed and it snowed all night and then all day Saturday into early Sunday morning.

I can't count how many times Clint had to "shovel" the driveway. 

(When you use a snow blower does it count as shoveling or is it cheating?)

The top picture was taken this morning. The skies are blue, the sun is out, and everything looks so beautiful covered in a blanket of fresh snow.

p.s. - This is what happens when you go too fast in the snow. You slide and hit into the car in front of you who is stuck in the snow. Can we consider it lucky if it's only your car that gets damaged?

12 Days of Christmas Randomness

1. Two Sundays ago we all accidentally dressed in Christmas colors.

Definitely picture worthy!

2. Last Sunday, we kept with the long-standing tradition, and had the grandchildren decorate Grandma and Grandpa's Christmas tree.

3. We've sat on Santa's lap, as well as written him our last minute Christmas lists.

4.  We attended a Christmas party at Gram's assisted living center. The kids made trees while Clint sampled all the candy.

5.  Last week it snowed.  It was absolutely beautiful.

6.  The next day it snowed even more.

Then yesterday it rained, and melted everything away which I'm not happy about - I'm dreaming of a white Christmas!  Fingers crossed it snows today.

7.  Yesterday #3 spent the day snowboarding in the mountains where it was snowing  - Lucky!

8. The stockings are hung by the chimney with care, in hopes that St. Nicholas soon will be here.

9. All the gifts are wrapped, and I can't wait for Christmas morning.

10. #5 had a dance recital this past weekend.  She did great, and is a natural-born performer.

11.  Due to some scheduling conflicts and a surgery, we were not able to have our traditional Cookie Day this year, so yesterday, the girls and I (since the boys were out playing), whipped up a few things, and everyone was happy, happy, happy.

 12.  And last but not least, Christmas came early for these two little girls.

My best friend, Denise (mother of 4 boys), gifted them her old Barbie Dream house (circa 1980), with furniture and Barbie dolls too.  

Remember Aja, the blue-haired Jem doll?

If you need me, I'll be upstairs playing Barbies!

Thanksgiving 2015

Thanksgiving is always a fun day. There's nothing better than gathering the whole family together around a nice, big, delicious meal.  This year we celebrated up at Heber Valley Camp with my missionary parents.

It had snowed the night before, and the fresh snow was perfect for playing in. 

After the feasting and waking up from our turkey-induced comas, we (when I say we, I mean everyone except for me) went sledding. 

Everyone took turns sliding down the hill and then being pulled back up by the side-by-sides.

(That's my kind of sledding -where there's little to no effort involved.)

It was one of the most fun Thanksgivings yet.

Dear Sun

This morning we woke up to this - snow!?  With the mild winter we had, we had almost forgotten what this white, cold, wet stuff is - almost.

 I thought spring weather was here to stay and that summer was close on its heels -Apparently not so.

We sure have enjoyed the sunny skies and temperatures in the 70's. 

 We've enjoyed the weeks of being able to bask in the sun, and play outside, and wear shorts.

 Most days we'd wander down to the elementary school by our house, (since we don't have grass yet - fingers crossed that it happens soon), and play kickball or catch (I use the term we very loosely)

Dear Sun-  We miss you.  Please come back and bring the warm weather with you.  Thank you.

My Favorite Gift of Christmas

 My favorite gift of Christmas was not found under the tree

and it was not wrapped in bright colorful paper.

It couldn't even be brought inside the house.

  My favorite gift this Christmas was the foot of snow we woke up to Christmas morning.

 Christmas Eve looked like this: beautiful sunset, white snowy mountain peaks, but mostly brown, dry, and very un-Christmas-like.

There was no snow storm in sight.

But Christmas morning, God blessed us with the best present ever- SNOW and lots of it. 

 It was beautiful, peaceful

 and FUN!

P.S.- The new car Santa hid in my garage was a very close second.

Weekend Happenings

It snow again on Saturday.  I love the first few snowfalls of the year! 

Except for shoveling the sidewalks and driveway.

(Thanks for shoveling my driveway #3!)

 The little girls got all bundled up in their winter gear for a fun morning of snow angel-making, snowball fights, and trying to make a snowman with uncooperative snow.

(Sometimes I think more time is spent putting on all the snow gear than actually playing outside.)

As much as I love the snow, that was not the best part of my weekend.

The best part of my weekend was spent here, at the Provo Utah Temple, with my family, including my now 91-year old Grandma- Who I lovingly call Gram.

It was such a sweet moment to watch my Gram be sealed to her late husband and her two children, my mom and her brother, Mike.  How grateful I am for the sealing power that makes families Forever Families.
