Do boys have Sweet 16's? Maybe they have Smooth 16's, or more likely Sweaty 16's.
Whatever it's called for the male species, this boy is having one.
I am so glad this boy is in our family. We love him to pieces. He is smart, hard-working, fun-loving, and funny. We just can't get enough of him!

The plan was to pick him up from work later this afternoon, drive him to the DMV to get his Driver's License, quickly have some sort of birthday celebration with him before running him back up to work later tonight.
BUT
At 11:00 Wednesday night we received a phone call from the scout camp #3 has been working at this summer. They were taking him to the Emergency Room and needed us to meet them there, which we did, of course! The cause for this visit? Epistaxis, which is a fancy medical word for . . . . .
a bloody nose.
His nose began to bleed around 9:00 and wouldn't stop. He went to the camp doctor, who also couldn't get it to stop. It was gushing blood out both sides. 2+ hours later, they decided it was probably best to take him to the ER before he ran out of blood (I'm totally being sarcastic here.)
The ER doctor, numbed his nose, looked inside, and diagnosed him with posterior epistaxis, a nose bleed occurring from a broken artery in the back of his nose. It was a doozy. Along with the gushing blood from his nose, he also had blood clots all down his throat, and was nauseous from all the blood he had swallowed. Finally the doctor shoved a huge long rectangle, make-up looking sponge up his nostril all the way to his brain. A little after 1:00 am, we were discharged. #3 swore he'd wasn't going to sleep because he was afraid of rolling over and hitting his nose, which would hurt incredibly bad. Not 10 minutes after arriving home, I went in to check on him and he was out like a light.

He slept all day yesterday while his nose oozed and oozed. Since the nose is also connected to the eyes, his right eye is swollen and crusted constantly with mucus, something that is common in this situation. He seriously looks like he's been in a fight! When we tell him that, he replies in normal #3 fashion, "Yeah, You should see the other guy!"
I feel so bad for him. I wish I could turn everything back to normal for him. He is out of work for the rest of the week. Today, on his birthday, instead of going to get his driver's license, he will be going to the ENT to have surgery. Isn't that what everyone wants for their birthday?
I think instead of Sweet 16, we'll definitely call this one Bloody 16.
