Warning: Photo overload for the next several days~
On Monday we ventured into Yellowstone National Park.
We chose to drive the western part of the lower loop.
Our first stop was Gibson Falls. They were gorgeous!
Our next stop was Norris Geyser Basin. The trail was under construction so we could only get this close.
We also stopped here at the Ranger Station to buy the little girls a Junior Ranger book. If they complete the required pages, they will be sworn in as Junior Rangers which also includes an official patch. The girls earned this the last time we visited Yellowstone and it was a definite must this time around.
We made a pit-stop at the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone. It's gorgeous.
(more pics of this coming in a later post)
The nice thing about Yellowstone is that there is always someone who's just enjoying the scenery, not in a hurry, and will stop to take a photo for you.

Last on our agenda for the day was Lake Yellowstone.
Would you just look at that sky! Just look at it!
They don't call it Big Sky Country for nothing!

This particular beach was called Gull Point. It has black sand. Yes- that's sand not gravel!
Clint and the kids had a contest to see who could stay in the freezing cold water the longest.
First out- the two youngest. . . Go figure!
Then #4 (his face describes just how cold the water was), closely followed by Clint.
On the way home, the big kids taught the little girls how to nap and conserve their energy.
Unfortunately, they didn't learn very well. There were plenty of naps taken just not by anyone under the age of 9. (What's up with that?)
That night we ventured out again on our trusty wheelers for a sunset ride
up to what we call the tower.
It has an awesome view of Lake Hebgen.
I rode with #4 who purposely hit every bump and jump there was. I'm really surprised I was able to hang on. Man! my tailbone still hurts from that ride. Also on this ride, #4 drove straight through a flock of bugs (what is correct wording for a large group of bugs flying together?). A few flew into his eye. I told him that's what he gets for trying to buck his mom off.
By this day, the funness of being home alone for #1, who couldn't come because he couldn't get work off, was starting to wear off and he was texting every so often: "I miss you" "Thanks for leaving food for me" "What's everyone up to?" "How's it going today?"
Ha ha!
Distance really does make the heart grow fonder!
