I Love You Day!

The sweet Activity Day girls heart-attacked our door,
along with this m&m rice crispy treat getting our Valentine's Day off to the perfect start.
Of course we were up late making Valentine boxes.
Kami went with a unicorn this year
and luckily Kaitlyn decided to recycle Kami's from last year.
There were roses for me from my sweetheart, and lots of candy and cards, and even a late night (10:30) doorbell ditch of some yummy-looking brownies for Cory.
We definitely were feeling the love.

Super Bowl 52

This is how we celebrated the Super Bowl on Sunday.
with pedi's in the tub. It makes for the best party ever!
In the middle of washing the dinner dishes a special Super Bowl invitation was delivered.
the place: Mom's bathroom
the time: right now
the activity: pedis in the tub

There were foot soaks, foot and leg lotion massages, nail painting, and treats.
After-all, What's a party without treats?

I vote we make this a new tradition! Next year I'll be rooting for team SPA! Go TEAM!

Babies R Us

I love that we're still playing with baby dolls at our house.
For Christmas Kami and Kaitlyn both got a new doll.

Kami got a toddler size doll that she packs around on her hip all day.
Kaitlyn got a newborn that she swaddles and cradles while she plays.

These girls love their babies. Every night they dress them in pajamas and get them ready for bed.
Every morning they get them dressed and comb their hair.
They take them for walks, and check out books from the library to read to them. Most nights, they even eat dinner with us.
Each morning they bring their baby down for me to tend while they're away at school.

Even "Aunt" Kelsey is sometimes forced to get in on the action.

I know it's only a matter of time before they no longer want to play with baby dolls so I'm cherishing every moment I can.

Crazy Hair, Don't Care!

When it's crazy hair day at school, you do crazy hair.
(And when your mom is a beauty school drop-out, you have to do your own.)
Here we have the bun-hawk, similar to the mowhawk.
And this one is simply Bow-tiful!
You can never go wrong with a half dozen bows in your hair.

I never had crazy hair day at school when I was growing up. Did you?

New Do

Kaitlyn has been asking me for months to take her to get her hair trimmed before she turned into Crystal Gayle. (I might have thrown in the part about looking like Crystal Gayle. She has no idea who she is, and if you don't know who Crystal Gayle is either, you must under the age of 30 and you will need to Google her.) Seriously though!

Baptism Day

Last Saturday was a special day for our family. It was baptism day for #6.
She was baptized by Clint. I'm so proud of her for choosing to be baptized and I'm proud that Clint was able to perform the ordinance.
After the services, we headed back to the house for a PARTY/Lunch!
where we had a great time visiting with family. There was food too, of course. We gorged ourselves on sub sandwiches, chips, grapes, and Cookies and Cream cupcakes (per #6's request).

This was a bitter-sweet day for me. I was so happy and excited for #6, but at the same time I couldn't help but think about the fact that another chapter in my life is over. This is the last baptism for me as a mom, and that's just weird, and sad, and kind of exciting all at the same time.

Happy 8th Birthday!

#6 turned 8 on the 18th of September. For her birthday, she had a couple requests:
1. Spaghetti for dinner.
Lucky for me (or her) there was leftovers from the Homecoming Pasta Bar the night before. She got spaghetti and I didn't even have to cook it.
2. A ROUND frosted brownie "cake" (not square but round so it looks like a cake) topped with Shopkins (very similar to last year's cake), and a number 8 candle. Easy enough. . .

Here's a little birthday video for your pleasure - You're welcome!

Look Who's Getting Baptized!

It's #6.
You may or may not know that #6 is not a big fan of having her picture taken.
She makes it really hard for an amateur photographer (that would be moi) to quickly and effectively capture her true personality.
Gratefully, out of the 100's of photos quickly snapped of her, there were a few (thanks to the help of awesome editing programs) really good ones.
These were all taken near our home:
 The stream up the street
 The orchards down the road
The mountains out our front door

And the sagebrush field across the street
Now if Saturday would just hurry up and get here!

The Love Note

There is nothing better than getting a "love note". #6 is the queen of love notes. She is really good at letting you know you are loved and appreciated.
 She leaves them everywhere -
 On your scriptures
the bathroom soap
even in your shoes.
Her love notes make me happy!

It Finally Happened

As you may or may not know, three years ago, Clint and I bought a two-year old house. Here in Utah, when most people build a house, they move in first, and then put in their yard. The original owners of our house never got around to that part, so when we moved in, there was no yard, just a lot of dirt, and rocks.
-Well, no more.-
I'm happy to report that as of last Friday, July 15th, we finally have grass!
Putting in a yard with minimal hired help is a long tiring process. We tried to do as much as we could by ourselves.
Clint and my dad started in April moving rocks and installing the sprinkler system.
After doing as much as we could on our own, we had to hire out the rest. Someone to pour cement, build a couple of rock walls, bring in topsoil and grade the yard, and finally, someone to curb around the flowerbeds.
Here in Utah, the housing market is booming. We called 100's of landscapers who never called us back, and those that we were able to get a hold of were booked out for weeks/months. I'm an impatient person. When I'm ready for something, I want it right now. This was a hard wait for me. Finally, bit by bit, over the course of three months, we were able to get everything done.
After months of waiting, once things got started, everything seemed to happen all at once, and almost too quickly.
On Monday the topsoil people finished. Tuesday the "Curber" came. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday we (and when I say we, I mean Clint) installed 1,567,899 sprinkler heads.
In fact, we were up until 3 am most nights trying to get everything done and ready for sod.
Our neighbors were awesome and also helped.
We had one neighbor that came over every night to help. Our other neighbor stayed up late combing the dirt to make it smooth and remove any rocks.
Speaking of sod, it was scheduled to be delivered Friday night, and we would install it Saturday just in time for the return of our three older children who were attending a church youth conference.
WRONG!
The sod trucks pulled up a little after 5:30 am Friday morning (Who needs sleep?)!
There was no way we could keep the sod outside in the heat and sun all day long, so after going back to bed for a couple of hours, Clint and I began laying sod.

We had some awesome helpers. The first to arrive was a sweet neighbor lady, no bigger than me, who came with her two children. Together we carried the large HEAVY (who knew grass could weigh so much) pieces of sod over to Clint who then put them in place. We worked for over two hours and finally finished the smallest section of the entire yard before muscle fatigue set in and lifting another piece of sod was impossible.
When I was wondering how we were possibly going to lay 20 more pallets of sod, more neighbors showed up to help -This time men!
They kept coming and coming and before I knew it, there were 10 men out there taking time away from their family to help us lay sod.  Each came on their own without being asked.
We were so grateful.
When we began laying the sod, we noticed that there were a lot of unusable dry crumbly pieces that fell apart when you went to pick them up. This was not good. We knew we had ordered a little bit extra (a little cushion), but with all this bad sod, we wouldn't be able to finish the entire yard, and would have to wait (ugh! that waiting game I "love" so much) for more to be delivered.
Somehow, even with several pallets-ful of unusable sod, we had just enough -just enough- to complete the yard. It was a miracle!
At the end of the day, as we sat on the patio looking out over our new yard eating Cafe Rio (that a thoughtful friend brought us), we were dirty and exhausted, but happy and very very grateful.
