I Love You Day!

The sweet Activity Day girls heart-attacked our door,
along with this m&m rice crispy treat getting our Valentine's Day off to the perfect start.
Of course we were up late making Valentine boxes.
Kami went with a unicorn this year
and luckily Kaitlyn decided to recycle Kami's from last year.
There were roses for me from my sweetheart, and lots of candy and cards, and even a late night (10:30) doorbell ditch of some yummy-looking brownies for Cory.
We definitely were feeling the love.

Super Bowl 52

This is how we celebrated the Super Bowl on Sunday.
with pedi's in the tub. It makes for the best party ever!
In the middle of washing the dinner dishes a special Super Bowl invitation was delivered.
the place: Mom's bathroom
the time: right now
the activity: pedis in the tub

There were foot soaks, foot and leg lotion massages, nail painting, and treats.
After-all, What's a party without treats?

I vote we make this a new tradition! Next year I'll be rooting for team SPA! Go TEAM!

Grandma and Grandpa's Tree

Each year, usually the first Sunday after Thanksgiving, my parents (Grandma and Grandpa Luke) invite the grandkids over to decorate their Christmas tree. This is a tradition we look forward to every year.
It begins with dinner, then the grandchildren get busy hanging 100's of ornaments and other various knick-knacks (some new, most old from when I was a kid) onto the tree, ending with dessert and usually an uplifting Christmas message.
This year we watched THIS VIDEO and committed to

Follow Our Savior Jesus Christ. In 25 Ways. Over 25 Days.

We even came up with our own plan to Light the World, which I'm super excited about.

Thanksgiving 2016

Ahhh Thanksgiving!!! My very favorite holiday.
There are no gifts to wrap, no eggs to hide, no cookies to make, and no candy to buy.
There is however pie! and rolls, and turkey, and green bean casserole, and. . . .well, you get my point.

(Speaking of pie, HERE is my family's traditional award-winning 'pie' recipe)

I just love Thanksgiving Time.
 I love the decorations,
 the snow,
 olives on fingers,
spending time with family,
and our annual game of Thanksgiving Bingo.
But the thing I like most about Thanksgiving is counting and focusing on the thousands of things God has given, and done for me.
There's just something about focusing on these blessings that makes me so happy.

I love that we celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday first which gives us a chance to focus on the millions of little things God has blessed us with; and then immediately after, we head right into the Christmas season where we celebrate the Greatest Blessing of all, our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Star-Spangled 4th

Happy 4th of July!
It's kind of fun celebrating Independence Day on a Monday. It seems the celebration spans throughout the entire weekend. If you include tonight, we've been able to sit on our patio and watch fireworks three nights in a row.
My mom started a tradition years ago of making homemade ice cream each Fourth of July to eat during the fireworks show. We're keeping the tradition alive! It wouldn't be the 4th without homemade vanilla ice cream and fireworks -oh and family!

#4's Birthday #14

Gosh I love this kid!  I'm so glad to be his mama.
Monday we celebrated his 14th birthday!
We celebrated in our typical way with a birthday dinner followed by cake and presents.
(More about our Family's Birthday Traditions HERE)
He chose Turkey and Stuffing Rollups for his dinner of choice, and BTS cake for his birthday cake.
This cake has become the unofficial/official birthday cake of the Collins' Family.

#2 was in charge of wrapping presents this year.  She did an awesome job wrapping this hockey stick.
She also got creative and wrapped a clue that send #4 on a scavenger hunt for his "BIG" gift.
It took him quite a while to find his gift which he wasn't very excited about, but we were sure entertained!
Look at that smile!  It's contagious. You can't help but smile too.

Nativity 2015

HAPPY 2016!
May this be a happy, healthy, and blessed year for you and yours.
We haven't acted out the Nativity for years.
Clint and I decided this is a yearly Christmas tradition we'd like for our family to have.
We feel it is important to center our Christmas on the Savior and His birth. Hopefully this year will be the beginning of many nativity plays to come.

Luke 2
1. And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Cæsar Augustus, that all the world should betaxed.

3. And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.
And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judæa, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)
To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.
And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and theglory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David aSaviour, which is Christ the Lord.
12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
15 And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.
16 And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.
17 And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.
Matthew 2
Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judæa in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.
And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.
When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.
10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.

Secret Santas

A few years ago we started this Secret Santa tradition.  Each of our children draw a name.  Throughout the month, they do secret acts of service for that person.  They also give a small gift to that person. We exchange the Secret Santa gifts during our Christmas Eve festivities.

This year we started with the youngest to oldest giving their Secret Santa gift to the person they drew.
